Speira, a prominent Germany-based aluminium producer, has unveiled plans for a substantial investment of 414 million kroner ($38.8 million) in a sophisticated new furnace at its rolling and recycling facility in Holmestrand, Norway.

Upon the anticipated completion in 2026, this innovative furnace will significantly enhance the Holmestrand plant’s capacity, enabling it to process an additional 22,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap annually. Consequently, approximately half of the plant's production will derive from recycled materials, leading to a notable reduction in its carbon footprint by an estimated 150,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

This strategic investment follows closely on the heels of Speira’s recent €40 million investment in a new recycling furnace and the modernization of an existing casting plant at its Rheinwerk facility in Neuss, Germany.

"Securing our competitive future necessitates continuous investment in state-of-the-art equipment," remarked Jon Gaasholt, manager of the Holmestrand plant. "The new furnace will solidify our position as a premier provider of rolled and recycled aluminium products."
