Domestic exports of titanium scrap surged in the second quarter compared with the same period last year, driven mainly by higher raw material prices in Europe and more stringent consumption specifications in India.
- Total global shipments rose 51% to about 3,200 tonnes, according to data released this week by the US Department of Commerce.
- Exports to India nearly doubled to around 650 tonnes, with more than half of this volume shipped in June.
- Shipments to the UK increased by 82% to almost 600t, with around 500t of this being shipped in April and May.
- Mexico entered the top five destinations for US titanium scrap exports, rising from zero to almost 300 tonnes.
- Japan and Estonia - two major importers in the previous year - brought in less in the latest quarter, importing 59pc and 50pc less respectively.
