The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) is poised to announce its final decision on Section 301 tariff exclusions for Chinese imports "in the coming days," following a delay of over a month. The USTR is working to finalize the list of products from China that will be subject to expanded tariffs, according to a statement released on Friday.
Initially scheduled to take effect on August 1, the first wave of tariffs—covering electric vehicles (EVs) and critical minerals among other items—was postponed by at least two weeks. This delay was necessary to review over 1,100 public comments submitted in response to the tariffs announced in May.
Several US market participants have requested exemptions for specific products, such as indium and tantalum, arguing that the US relies heavily on China for these metals and lacks domestic production capabilities.
