Giyani Metals, a Canada-based company, is set to produce battery-grade high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate (HPMSM) from its K Hill project located in Kanye, Botswana, in the fourth quarter of 2024. The material will be used for testing and qualification purposes, marking a significant step towards becoming a major supplier for the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

Continuous Process Flow for Sustainable Production

The demonstration plant, expected to yield up to 600 kg of HPMSM daily, will utilize Yokogawa Distributed Control System (DCS) software to maintain a continuous production process. This approach, as opposed to traditional batch methods, allows the company to aim for steady-state operations, ensuring consistent quality. Giyani's CEO, Charles FitzRoy, emphasized that this consistency is crucial for meeting the demands of potential offtake partners and satisfying future agreements.

As part of its long-term goals, Giyani seeks to be a leading Western producer of low-carbon, sustainable HPMSM for the rapidly growing EV sector. The company’s proprietary hydrometallurgical process will position it as a significant player in the supply chain for lithium-ion batteries, which are essential to the EV industry's continued expansion.
