A Milestone in EV Battery Production

Jiangsu Lopal in Strategic Alliance with Ford: Chinese lithium iron phosphate (LFP) producer Jiangsu Lopal has inked a pivotal five-year contract to supply LFP cathode materials to Ford Motor Company. This partnership aims to bolster Ford's upcoming battery production at BlueOval Battery Park Michigan, set to start in 2026.

Flexible Terms with Annual Renewals: The supply deal, beginning in 2026, features annual renewals and monthly pricing adjustments, ensuring adaptability to market conditions. This agreement also sets precise minimum and maximum supply volumes, with Lopal committed to exceeding the forecast volume by 15%.

Expanding Capacities: In preparation for increased demand, Lopal initiated LFP production in April 2024 at its new facility in Indonesia, which boasts a capacity of 30,000 metric tonnes per year and complies with US regulatory standards.

Ensuring a Sustainable Supply Chain

Ford's proactive approach extends beyond Lopal, having secured a deal with US lithium producer Albemarle in May 2023 for battery-grade lithium hydroxide, crucial for powering future electric vehicles.
