Vedanta Limited signed an initial agreement with Odisha to build an aluminum refinery and smelter in Rayagada district. This project will significantly boost Odisha's industrial sector.
Massive Investment to Create Aluminum Hub
Vedanta plans to invest $1 trillion in aluminum facilities. The project includes a 3mn t/yr aluminum plant and a 6mn t/yr alumina refinery. This strengthens Odisha's position as a global aluminum hub. Sectors like automotive, power, construction, and logistics will see growth. The first phase aims for commissioning within three years, with future expansion planned.
Bauxite and Chrome Ore Resources Secured
Furthermore, Vedanta secured the Sijimali bauxite mine in Rayagada. This mine is under development for exploration. Vedanta also established chrome ore mines in Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts. Currently, Vedanta operates a 1.8mn t/yr smelter in Jharsuguda and a 3.5mn t/yr alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, both in Odisha.
